Relics are recurring items in the Crash Bandicoot series, and they first appear in Crash Bandicoot: Warped. Relics are usually rewarded by beating a Time Trial record within a level or other area. A stage's Time Trial can be unlocked by completing it the first time. There are three types of relics, ranked lowest to highest: sapphire, gold, and platinum. The relic that is rewarded depends on the completion time. Obtaining the relics is required to complete the game.

Appearances

Relics have a consistent role and purpose in the main platformer games. Besides Crash Bandicoot: Warped, Relics also appear in three other platformers: Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex, Crash Bandicoot: The Huge Adventure, and Crash Bandicoot 2: N-Tranced. After completing a level the first time, Crash can retry the level for Time Trial mode. In Crash Bandicoot: Warped, collecting the first five relics unlocks a Secret Warp Room. Every five relics thereafter unlock a secret level instead.

In Crash Team Racing, Crash Nitro Kart, and Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, the Relics are obtained similarly to the platform games. In Adventure Mode, after completing a course, the player's character can retry it for a relic.

In Crash Bash, each minigame has an obtainable Gold Relic and a Platinum Relic. Sapphire Relics do not return in the game. In Adventure Mode, there are Gold Relic and Platinum Relic Challenges which can be unlocked separately by completing a certain number of Warp Rooms. To obtain a Gold Relic, the player's character must complete a minigame's Gold Relic Challenge twice. To obtain a Platinum Relic, the player's character must complete a minigame's Platinum Relic Challenge three times. Crash Bash is the only game where Gold Relics have a green jewel encrusted instead of red.

In Crash Bandicoot Purple: Ripto's Rampage, there are three trading cards, which are of a Sapphire Relic, a Gold Relic, and a Platinum Relic respectively. They are rewarded for completing one of Crunch's weightlifting challenges.
