Ripper Roo is a blue kangaroo who was mutated by Doctor Neo Cortex and zapped by the Evolvo Ray. Ripper Roo appears as a boss in several Crash Bandicoot games, starting with the first game, Crash Bandicoot. He has an insane personality and a distinctive maniacal laughter.

Ripper Roo was created by Naughty Dog to show the dangers of the Cortex Vortex in a humorous way. He also provided an opportunity for the animators to use overlapping action.[1] Ripper Roo's voice consists of sound clips of the hyena's laughter in Disney's 1955 film, Lady and the Tramp. He is voiced by Jess Harnell in Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and Andrew Morgado in Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled.

History

Crash Bandicoot

In the first game, Crash Bandicoot, Ripper Roo is the second boss. He was defeated by Crash in a waterfall battle. In the epilogue, it is shown that Ripper Roo underwent intense therapy and eight years of higher education, and soon went on to write a critically-acclaimed book.

Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back

In Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back, Ripper Roo attempts to fight Crash again, but once again fails, falling victim to his own explosives.

Crash Team Racing

In Crash Team Racing, Ripper Roo appears as the first boss. In the epilogue, he was elected a state governor (following a groundswell of public support). In the remake, Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, Ripper Roo instead became a thrill ride engineer, but was blacklisted when it was discovered he was designing rides purely to test his pain threshold.

Crash Twinsanity

In Crash Twinsanity, Ripper Roo and the rest of Dr. Cortex's minions appear just before Crash starts battling against Dr. Cortex. Following Crash's victory, Ripper Roo discusses lunch with Dingodile.

General information

Physical appearance

Ripper Roo is a small blue kangaroo with crazed-looking eyes and razor-sharp toenails. His only article of clothing is a white straitjacket. In his biblophile stage, he sports a top hat, glasses, a bowtie, and a walking cane. He is also capable of growing blonde hair, growing a full head of hair and a blonde mustache.

Personality

As a result of being overexposed to the Evolvo Ray, Ripper Roo is demented and hopping mad. He does not speak and instead giggles maniacally. In Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back, Roo has become somewhat of a biblophile, with a numerous amount of books found in his lair during the boss battle against him. In this state, he uses his cane to move around rather than his own feet. It usually takes a large explosion to revert Ripper Roo to his old, maniacal state.
