Species | Cat and bat hybrid |
Catbat is a playable character in the upcoming game Crash Team Rumble, having first appeared as a cameo in Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time. They are a fusion of a cat and a bat.
It seems they may be a foil of Dingodile, as cats parallel with dogs (which dingos are a species of) in pop culture, as well as Dingodile having feuded with the bats of Mosquito Marsh during the events of Crash Bandicoot 4.
Overview[edit]
Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time[edit]
Catbat appears in the 100% ending of Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time, where they tease Dr. Neo Cortex as Coco Bandicoot triumphs over Nina Cortex.

Catbat is a slim cat-bat hybrid with light blue-green fur. They have yellow eyes with catlike slit pupils and heavy eyebrow ridges, surrounded by dull pink markings and a scar over their right eye. They have a small pink nose, large fangs and long pointed ears with three silver piercings in the left ear. They also have a long thin tail and large spiked bat wings with pink webbing. They wear a black leather jacket with a tall, studded collar, dull blue jeans with a tear over the right knee, a black leather belt with a skull-shaped buckle, and a silver spiked ring around their tail. They don't wear anything under their jacket, showing purple stripes on their chest. They have bare feet with large brown claws.
Creation[edit]
Designer and artist Nicholas Kole has stated that the character was originally designed as nonbinary and uses gender neutral pronouns,[1][2] although this may change in the final release of Crash Team Rumble. Since they are a playable character, they were designed to look more legible and appealing than monster-y.[3]

Trivia[edit]
- Nicholas Kole, Catbat's designer, has responded to a Tweet asking if they played in a band, saying they would play in a goth or glam rock band.[4]
