Location and uses[edit]

Nitro Crates are explosive green crates filled with nitroglycerin. Unlike TNT Crates, Nitro Crates instantly damage Crash upon contact, so he must avoid them entirely. Nitro Crates debut in Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back, and in several of the main series installments, Nitro Crates can only be safely destroyed by activating a Nitro Crate Switch, which blows up every Nitro Crate in the level. In some of the games, Crash dies instantly from touching one, even if he is under Aku Aku's protection.

In Crash Team Racing and Crash Nitro Kart, Nitro Crates are a juiced power-up for TNT Crates, which are upgraded if a racer has ten Wumpa Fruit. Unlike TNT Crates, if a racer drives into a Nitro Crate, it instantly explodes on them, causing the racer to lose three Wumpa Fruit.
